Postpartum Mood Disorders

Mothers typically expect to be excited about their bundle of joy, and everyone around them expects them to be as well. Adjusting to a new baby can be difficult, but it’s overall a happy time.

However, that isn’t always the case. According to Postpartum Progress many mothers (10-15% or about 950,000 or more women each year) experience a Postpartum Mood Disorder, including depression, anxiety/OCD, or psychosis.

Postpartum Progress also offers a list of symptoms of postpartum depression and anxiety/OCD as well as symptoms of postpartum psychosis. If you are experiencing these feelings, know that you aren’t alone and treatment is available. It is ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT that you seek treatment if you are experiencing symptoms of PSYCHOSIS. You may do things you wouldn’t normally do.
